Bookmobile
Reach for the World,
READ!
#FFFFFF
Walter Cecil Rawls, the founder of the Rawls Library System,
was a firm advocate of the library being for all people and was
the first to suggest Bookmobile service. This service was to
reach people who often would never visit a library any other way. In the spring of 1959 Bookmobile service was put into
operation on National Library Week.
Our current Bookmobile was purchased in 2002, is 26 feet long,
and features a wheelchair lift at the rear of the bus.
The Bookmobile runs on a two
week schedule which allows us to be at our stops every other
week. We service Isle of
Wight, Southampton, and
Sussex
Counties in Virginia. We have seven routes on our
schedule.
The mission of the
Bookmobile is to meet our patron's
needs. We will take requests for anything that you do not see and try to bring it on our next trip. We also have Interlibrary
Loan Services through our main library. |
