| On June 13, 1958, the Library and Museum known as the Walter Cecil Rawls Library and Museum was dedicated for the use of the people of Southampton County and nearby communities. Mr. Walter Cecil Rawls, our founder, born in Southampton County and crippled by polio at the age of 18 months, dreamed of a central library that would serve the people in his native community. A well known philanthropist, in his later years he was able to found and endow the library. Now a Regional Library System we serve four counties and one city with nine branches and a bookmobile. Headquarters is located at the Rawls Library in Courtland, Virginia, along with the Courtland Branch. |
